The Book of the Defender

While hunting in the Planes, Mofusa found an ancient black leather scabbard. It had once been set with gems, and indeed the settings remained, though the gems were long gone. Tarnished silver thread spelled out the word 'DEFENDER' running the length of the scabbard, and inside he found a scrap of parchment torn from a scroll. The faded writing spoke of a quest to restore the scabbard and find its missing blade, Defender.

Mofusa took the scabbard to Kimo, master smith, hoping that he might have some knowledge of a mythical or ancient weapon known as Defender, and indeed, in searching his memory, Kimo recalled hearing tales of such a weapon told by his grandfather. The weapon had been borne into the battles against the barbarians to the north, and apparently, had disappeared in one of them. Puzzled, and intrigued by the tale, Mofusa approached others he trusted with the scabbard and the tale -- Taliesin, Preceptor of the Church of Amilor, and Garin, Sergeant at Arms of the Crimson Band. Garin, as well, had vague memories of such a weapon. His strongest recollection was a tradition that the Defender would reappear when Fayd had need of it, and when there was a Champion worthy of bearing it. Both Taliesin and Garin turned to the lorekeepers of their guilds, and Sutekh, Lorekeeper of the Crimson Band, found, among the books recently contributed to the Library of the Circle of Yarin, an ancient parchment book that seemed to detail the history of the Defender.

Sutekh studied the book carefully, and made its contents known to the members of the Crimson Band and the Church of Amilor. Winter transcribed the contents of it, and posted them on Amilor's message boards. That transcription is included here.
